Missing “T” and “Q”

Missing “T” and “Q”

We have now learned that our government has been removing  “T” and “Q”  of our rainbow and leaving only L,G and B on signage, mailboxes and stationery. It is hard to imagine an alphabet with T and Q, a rainbow with blue and yellow, a family of people without some of its members. And also, what about A and I, and then there is +?

We stand beneath a rainbow today,

and we cherish its beauty

It’s many colors are cast upon us

and, rainbow-like, we recognize our diversity

We rejoice in its radiant beauty

for no color is missing.

Can we rejoice

when colors are missing

from our rainbows?

Do we close our eyes

and shut those colors out in our blindness?

Or see it all in black and white?

Painter of rainbows,

open us to see beauty in our diversity

to cherish

celebrate

and trust it

How subtly your rainbow moves

from here to here

without a line.

How does one know

where green ends

and blue begins…

orange and blue

red and green are opposites

and yet

where do they stop and start?

They are connected

by yellows and purples

smeared

blended

woven

into a whole

When any feel estranged and outcast,

by creative grace provide those mediators

who draw us together

without blurring our distinctions

who connect us with the whole

as an integral

significant

purposeful

part

Perhaps rainbows are always here

but we see them only when sun and rain meet,

when the day is neither and both.

And so, with us,

as we share joy and sorrow

gift and need

hope and fear

we become visibly beautiful to each other

How amazing – a rainbow –

seemingly anchored in the earth

thrust into the sky

never within grasp

but always ahead.

and actually, only part of a complete circle

which we rarely see

Thrower of Rainbows

ground and expand us

hold and release us

draw us in and push us out

give us the vision

not to grasp onto

but to look toward

beauty and promise

Keeper of Colors

Protect our T and Q

our A, I, and +

Paint them with permanent marker

into every Rainbow

    Dear Bobbie,
What a beautiful, thoughtful poem. You have such a gift for painting pictures with words.
Thank you for creating this timely affirmation for GOD’s diversity.
