Emmaus

Walking Together

Show us your face, O Christ,

Walk beside us on our journeys

as you walked beside those disciples

on the Emmaus Way so long ago.

On the road of our discouragement, pain, despair, grief,

Walk beside us, O Christ,

as a sensitive listener who cares about our losses,

as a stranger who offers hope

as one who lightens the burdens of our hearts.

May we see that this is you.

Along the way of our busy-ness,

Walk beside us, O Christ.

with your slower pace,

with your quieter voice

with your centered-ness in God.

May we see that it is truly You.

Along our goal-oriented drive for achievement,

Walk beside us, O Christ,

showing us the value of human beings,

showing us the value of being human,

showing us the value of being itself.

May we see that this is You.

Along our wilderness journey,

Walk beside us, O Christ,

offering your nail-pierced palm into our uncertain hand,

guiding us home.

May we see that this is You.

And may we smile

at the very idea

that we were alone.

Amen
